“MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE” is a black comedy drama about the fate of Merritt (Sonicua Martin-Green), a citizen of the United States. A veteran of the Afghan army, who is at loggerheads with his family over the presence of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her dead best friend from the army. Despite the persistence of her counselor from the veterans affairs group (Morgan Freeman), the tough love of her mother (Gloria Reuben) and the frivolity of an unexpected love interest, Merritt’s cozy and dysfunctional friendship with Zoe keeps the duo isolated from the world. . . . This continued until the estranged grandfather Merritt (Ed Harris), locked in the family ancestral home on the lake, began to get lost and needed the only thing he refused… help. In essence, this is a film about friendships, about complicated friendships, about a separated family, and about how difficult it is for us to cope with grief.
